Experiment 2: Sensor DJ
This interactive 'DJ' set offers a unique way to experience music visually, acting like an audio visualizer. Playing with the Arduino kit felt reminiscent of spinning tracks on a DJ set, inspiring us to design the visual output to appear glitchy and wavy, where users get the illusion of sound and music despite there being no audio.
Created with Arduino and p5.js, users can change the colors with each click of the button, and they can also adjust the scale of the circles by turning the knob, enhancing the immersive 'DJ' experience.
The visuals were created with Arduino and p5.js, and the physical 'DJ' set was crafted with cardboard and printed papers. We made holes within the box to stick the button, knob and wires through the box, allowing users to experience the Arduino kit as if they were a DJ.
When handed the Arduino kit to mess around with for the first time, we connected it to DJ-ing, as the knobs and buttons were fun to play with. We thought that our experiment could allow users to experience the Arduino kit in a fun way, and to create a visual illusion where it feels as though music is playing even though there is no audio was satisfying. The biggest challenge was attaching the Arduino kit to the cardboard box, especially with how small the button is, but we managed to solve it with... lots of tape. Ultimately, we wanted to show that code and design can come together to create an immersive. interactive, exciting experience, and seeing people have fun trying out our creation is the best response we can have. :-)
