Experiment 5: Wake up
Our approach to this sound-based design was inspired by our first experiment with blink, pulse, and breathing data. In this iteration, we focused on the "blink" aspect, paired with an alarm sound to evoke the experience of waking up. The spiked shapes in our design represent our jolt-like reaction to the sudden alarm, visually capturing how our minds snap to attention when startled awake. Meanwhile, the fluid background movements suggest the lingering dream state, symbolizing the space between rest and wakefulness. Through a mix of sound, sharp geometry, and soft motion, we aimed to express the gradual, sometimes abrupt, transition from dreaming to alertness, inviting viewers into that familiar early-morning struggle.
This experiment was challenging to complete, but we had a clear concept from the start. Drawing on the idea of waking up, we built on insights from Experiment 1, which helped streamline our process in selecting the right elements and sounds. Incorporating the blinking data and alarm sound created a cohesive link to our previous work, allowing us to quickly decide on visual and audio elements. While there is room for further refinement, we’re proud of what we achieved, as it captures our intended theme and represents our best effort in this iteration.
